Two years have passed since the introduction of the Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA) as a part of Bill C-27, and its journey through Parliament shows no signs of concluding soon. Some view AIDA as a potential existential risk to AI innovation in Canada, while others see AI itself as a significant threat to Canadian society. As we stand at this crossroads, the critical question arises: Should parliamentarians persist on the current trajectory, or are there more effective ways for the government to foster the responsible adoption of AI technologies among Canadians and Canadian businesses?
